Filton Airfield

A large-scale, mixed-use development on the former Filton Airfield site in Bristol.

This former airfield, owned by BAE Systems, is situated to the north of Bristol and was closed at the end of 2012. It was allocated for mixed use development by the local authority, South Gloucestershire, including the provision of circa. 2750 residential dwellings and an employment zone.

The Richards Partnership was part of a multi-disciplinary team developing the masterplan. This involved detailed discussions with the local authority regarding the amount, use and disposition of open space provision and the inclusion of an integral SuDS system. While the application was outline, a number of areas within the site were designed in detail to ensure and demonstrate a quality scheme.

The application was submitted to the local authority in spring 2015 and received permission in summer 2015
